About Me
Carrie Helman
(Dip.Couns, MBACP, MCMA)
So, Who Am I?
I have always been passionate about understanding emotional processes and helping people cope with what they are holding internally. I believe that with time we can understand and accept our difficult situation from different perspectives and learn to manage our daily lives more effectively.
I am grateful for the diverse life experience I have gained and it has enabled me to understand the common struggles that many people encounter in their lives. I have had the pleasure of working with individuals of varied backgrounds and cultures, and in both general counselling and medical counselling, I have supported people with a variety of issues. My approach is entirely non-judgemental and I believe in treating every person I work with with respect, acceptance and kindness.
It is clear that we all share the common goal of wanting to move beyond our worries, fears, and traumas. Here at my practice, I place a priority on making sure that my clients feel heard, seen, and emotionally supported. I understand that for some, sharing their experiences for the first time might take a lot of courage, and I treat all unresolved trauma with the utmost care and sensitivity. The time it takes to process and move through each situation will always vary, and I’m here to create a safe and healing space for you.
I understand that seeking counselling can be a daunting task, but establishing a relationship with trust, honesty, compassion, and respect is essential to a successful counselling experience. As you embark on this journey, remember that it takes courage to take the leap of faith and face the fears and worries that you may be experiencing. I may not be able to provide you with all of the solutions, but I will do my best to provide you with the tools and understanding necessary to effectively cope with your issues.
My clients range from the very young to the elderly. No matter how old you are, we work with the same goal in mind, to help you get through your difficulties and find a way forward.
I implement various techniques in my work including Sand Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Body Work, etc.
I have worked with the NHS, specifically within the Gastro-Colorectal field. Working with patients, I have encountered a diverse range of physical and psychological bowel issues, from fear of upcoming surgery to living with a stoma (ileostomy and colostomy). I have also supported patients dealing with difficult issues such as body image and personal relationships pre- and post-surgery.
Demonstrating respect for boundaries and my role as a Counsellor, I will ensure that these are discussed and agreed upon from the very start. Additionally, I hope you will take comfort in the knowledge that I am not just a passive presence.
The journey we embark upon will be a shared one.
I work out of my private, self-contained Therapy Room based in Borehamwood, as well as online via Zoom.
